What is the Gut Microbiome?
The gut microbiome refers to the vast community of trillions of microorganisms—bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microbes—that live in your digestive tract. These microorganisms play a crucial role in maintaining various aspects of your health, from digestion and immune function to mental well-being and metabolism. An imbalance in this microbial community, known as dysbiosis, can lead to various health issues such as digestive problems, inflammation, and even mental health disorders.
How Do I Know If I Have a Microbiome Imbalance?
A microbiome imbalance can affect your entire body, leading to persistent and unexplained symptoms, including:
✅ Digestive Issues (Bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux)
✅ Mental Health Changes (Anxiety, depression, brain fog, mood swings)
✅ Chronic Fatigue & Inflammation (Low energy, joint pain, autoimmune flare-ups)
✅ Weight Struggles (Unexplained weight gain, difficulty losing weight)
✅ Skin Conditions (Acne, eczema, psoriasis, unexplained rashes)
✅ Frequent and recurring infections
✅ Food Sensitivities and Intolerances
Consider a microbiome consultation if you:
🔸 Have tried medications for months with little or no relief
🔸 Experience persistent symptoms that don’t improve with diet and lifestyle changes
🔸 Struggle with weight loss resistance despite exercise and healthy eating
🔸 Suffer from chronic gut issues like IBS, acid reflux, or food intolerances
🔸 Have ongoing anxiety, depression, or brain fog that hasn’t improved with therapy or medication
🔸 Develop recurrent infections (yeast infections, UTIs, colds, or sinus issues)
🔸 Have an autoimmune condition with persistent flare-ups despite treatment
If you’ve been dealing with any of these concerns long-term, a personalized health plan can help restore balance and improve your well-being.
Why is Gut Health Important?
A healthy gut isn’t just about digestion. Your gut impacts several key functions in your body, including:
Nutrient Absorption: The microbiome helps your body digest food and absorb nutrients more efficiently.
Immune System Support: Around 70% of your immune system resides in your gut. A balanced microbiome strengthens immune responses, protecting you from infections and inflammation.
Mental Health Connection: Often referred to as the "second brain," the gut is linked to your mental health. Imbalances in gut bacteria are associated with mood disorders such as anxiety and depression.
Chronic Conditions: Conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), obesity, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases are linked to gut health imbalances. Maintaining a healthy gut can alleviate symptoms and improve overall well-being.
How It Works:
Step 1: Initial Consultation

Probiotic therapy offers a non-pharmaceutical approach in psychotherapy and psychiatry, tapping into the natural regulation of the gut-brain axis. Unlike traditional medications, probiotics work by restoring the integrity of the gut barrier promoting beneficial microbial species while reducing harmful strains. This supports mood stability, cognitive function, and the stress responses without any side effects. It is especially helpful in cases that require an adjunct physiological intervention but pharmacotherapeutics cannot be used.

What is a microbiome?
The microbiome refers to the community of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other microbes) that live in a particular environment. The most well-known microbiome is the human gut microbiome, which resides in the digestive tract. These microorganisms play crucial roles in maintaining health by helping with digestion, producing vitamins, regulating the immune system, and protecting against harmful pathogens. Beyond the gut, microbiomes exist on the skin, in the mouth, respiratory system, and even the reproductive organs. Each person’s microbiome is unique and can be influenced by diet, lifestyle, environment, and medication use, sleep, particularly antibiotics.
In recent years, scientists have found strong links between microbiome imbalances (dysbiosis) and various health conditions such as digestive, metabolic and neurological disorders, autoimmune diseases, mental health issues, and even obesity. Therefore, maintaining a healthy microbiome is essential for overall wellness.
How can these recommendations improve gut health?
These recommendations are designed to restore gut microbiome balance through personalized probiotic therapy, strategic dietary adjustments, and targeted supplementation.
By intentionally addressing digestion, nutrient absorption, and inflammation, they aim to strengthen the gut barrier while supporting immune function, mental well-being, and metabolic health.
Are these recommendations safe to follow without a prescription?
These recommendations are non-prescriptive and are generally safe, focusing on dietary adjustments, probiotics, and supplements to support overall health. A collaboration with your healthcare provider or specialized physicians is recommended on a case by case basis to ensure that these recommendations align with your current treatment plan and specific health needs, allowing for a more integrated approach to your well-being.
How long before I see results from the changes?
The time it takes to see results from the changes can vary depending on individual factors such as the severity of the condition, adherence to the recommendations, and overall health. Generally, some improvements may be noticed within a few weeks, while more significant changes might take several months. Consistent implementation of the dietary, probiotic, and lifestyle recommendations, along with regular follow-ups, can help track progress and adjust the plan as needed for optimal results. On an average, results can be noticeable anywhere from 7 days to 3 months.

Listen, my gut was acting like a toxic situationship—gaslighting me (literally), unpredictable af, and ruining my life. Enter The Gut Instinct—now my stomach isn’t throwing tantrums, and I can actually eat without having my tummy betray me like a fake friend. No more emergency sprints, no more suspicious stomach noises in quiet rooms, just ✨vibes✨ and a gut that actually cooperates.

The Gut Instinct by Hrishikesh Deshpande was a program that indeed peaked my interest and I was intrigued by the concepts of the program as to how our bodies and in specific our state of minds are interlinked to the 'gut' per say.
Hrishikesh's humility and optimism compliments the plethora of knowledge he possesses which makes the program easy to understand and implement in day to day life.
It isn't a one snap magic wand of a program, but identifying root causes doused with implementation which is one's own choice to sign up for this program most definitely results to a fruitful outcome.
All in all, I would highly recommend this program. Moreover it is extremely interesting and widens the perspective and knowledge of one's own self through the program meticulously designed by him.
